Introduction

Follow in the footsteps of polar pioneers on an extraordinary expedition aboard Le Commandant Charcot. A vessel designed for scientific exploration in the Arctic’s most remote corners, take an all-new route, inaccessible to traditional ships. Accompanied by expert naturalists, explore unique ecosystems and join research projects conducted onboard to deepen your understanding of the polar environment. Be among the first to venture on a transarctic crossing and attempt to reach both the Magnetic and Geographic North Pole, echoing the feats of explorers like Umberto Nobile. Kayak and hike amidst icy shores and towering icebergs, encountering polar bears, walruses and other Arctic wildlife along the way. From Svalbard’s majestic landscapes to the chance to witness the Northern Lights, every moment aboard invites appreciation of the Arctic wilderness.

Trip Overview

Depart from Dublin to Nome, Alaska.

Begin your cruise expedition in the former gold mining town, set in the middle of the wilderness. Discover the local traditions of fishing, reindeer rearing and sledge-racing as you weave through the brightly coloured houses.

Explore Sea Ice in Beaufort Sea.

Feared for centuries due to its extreme conditions, this part of the Arctic Ocean remained unexplored until 1914. Now, you have the opportunity to uncover the magnificent landscapes of Beaufort Sea and with a bit of luck, you might cross the path of some polar bears.

A quest to reach the North Pole.

While the Geographic Pole is the Earth’s northernmost fixed point, the Magnetic Pole moves over time and can be difficult to locate. In darkness for six months a year, covered in ice and remote from any land, few people have ever reached them, an exploit that is now accessible to you.

Wildlife spotting in Svalbard.

Nordaust-Svalbard Nature Reserve’s fjords and cliffs are home to large colonies of birds and walruses. Witness these magnificent creatures alongside imposing glaciers and majestic icebergs in the vast Hinlopen Strait.

Sail to Soraust-Svalbard.

Norway’s second-largest protected area offers stunning panoramas of coastal landscapes, vast tundra plains and ice floes. Observe a wide variety of seabirds, cetaceans and Svalbard reindeer that have made their home here and perhaps even spot polar bears on Edgeoya Island.

Marvel at breathtaking fjords.

Sail between millennial glaciers and carved mountains as your ship takes you closer to the stunning Hornsund Fjord and the vast Isfjorden fjord. You may have the opportunity to visit the ghost town of Pyramiden, a former mining town.

Last stop, Longyearbyen.

Anchor in the capital of the Norwegian Svalbard archipelago as your trip comes to an end and soak up the breathtaking landscape of the mining town enveloped by glaciers, mountains and untouched nature.

Transfer to the airport for your flight home.

Arrive in Dublin.
