Luxury Holidays to India

This is a country that travellers dream about – exotic, oriental, ancient India. Luxury holidays to India are what travel stories are made of. It’s not just the places and the sightseeing that visitors relish, but also the festivals, the art and craft, the people and the cuisines. India offers a varied landscape that spreads itself out from the mystical Himalayas to the humming cities and historic landmarks. From the warm serenity of the backwaters of Kerala and Udaipur’s “Venice of the East” to the cultural capital of Kolkata and the brilliant colours swirling around the Thar Desert, there’s always somewhere left to be explored.

At OROKO, we’ve been to India many times and have continuously returned to explore its chaotic cities, rural heartlands and remote mountain villages. It is a place that is extremely rewarding, but also a destination where specialist knowledge is vital. That is why all of our luxury holidays to India include luxury partner accommodation, expert English-speaking private guides, private drivers and pre-arranged train tickets in executive class carriages. Each one of our itineraries are bespoke and tailored to you, so think of this as a sneak-peak of just how brilliant a luxury holiday to India with OROKO can be.

POCKET GUIDE TO INDIA

Agra

It is the magical allure of the Taj Mahal that Agra is best known for. Built by a grieving Mughal Emperor for his late wife, the Taj Mahal is a beautiful testament to love. However, the Taj is far from Agra’s stand-alone attraction. Hidden in the holy Yamuna River, Agra continues the legacy of the Mughal empire, with the magnificent Red Fort and a sprinkling of incredible tombs and mausoleums throughout the city. Lively chowks, or marketplaces, are filled with vibrant street vendors and eager rickshaw drivers.

New Delhi

New Delhi beats with the unrelenting rhythms of life like few other cities in the world. In Old Delhi, wonderfully chaotic streets are packed with cars, rickshaws, street-food vendors, cattle and scooters. Vibrant temples, mosques and shrines can be found throughout the city and the impressive Red Fort looms over Old Delhi, a reminder of the city’s Mughal past. Its colossal bazaars and emporiums twinkle with the riches of India and fusion flavours from every corner of the Indian Subcontinent come to meet in this on-the-go city.

Jaipur

Old meets new in Rajasthan’s capital of Jaipur. Also known as the Pink City for the dominant hue of its many buildings, Jaipur makes up one corner of the Golden Triangle alongside Delhi and Agra. This pink hue can be found at the city’s many palaces, forts and historic museums. Streets bustle with zooming rickshaws and busy bazaars glisten. At the heart of Jaipur, the City Palace houses the former royal family. A wonderful way to experience the beauty of Jaipur is on a luxury rail holiday aboard the Maharajas’ Express.

Mumbai

A modern metropolis that simmers with the beloved chaos of every bustling Indian city, Mumbai’s skyscrapers conceal the hum of energetic bazaars and colourful markets. A city of contrasts, authentic yet refined, wander through the markets at dawn, passing men and women selling fresh produce and watch vendors set up their colourful flower stalls on the streets India’s largest city. Tour the colonial-era landmarks such as the Gateway of India, Royal Mumbai Yacht Club and Session Court and visit the ancient UNESCO cave temples of Elephanta Caves.

Ranthambore National Park

A must visit for wildlife enthusiasts is Ranthambore National Park. Considered the best place to encounter the royal Bengal tiger, it is one of Northern India’s largest and most famous national parks. Drawing in keen wildlife enthusiasts and seasoned photographers, the exceptional setting is home to impressive wildlife. Seek out Indian foxes, wild boar and sloth bears and, of course, the main objective is to meet royal Bengal tigers like Machhali, the oldest surviving tigress of the park, and possibly the world. For a truly exceptional wildlife experience, consider our suggested India’s Tiger Reserves and National Parks luxury holiday.

Kerala

Sitting between the Western Ghats and Arabian Sea, Kerala is the crown jewel of South India when it comes to natural beauty. Set out on a peaceful exploration of the sleepy backwaters, laced with a labyrinth of ancient canals, rivers and islets. Embrace the laid-back lifestyle, taking a slow-paced and insightful journey to the cities and villages of Cochin, Kumarakom and Mararikulam. Discover daily life on guided tours and enjoy stays at luxury sustainable hotels and resorts that embrace Ayurvedic living.
