One of the oldest countries in the world, luxury holidays in Armenia are trip back in time. Few nations have histories as ancient, landscapes as amazing and locals as charming as Armenia. Well-preserved medieval monasteries are scattered across the isolated scenery of Armenia’s countryside, closely followed by the dramatically beautiful landscapes of steep valleys, soaring mountains and alpine lakes, including one of the world’s largest alpine lakes, Lake Sevan. Visit the small monastery of Khor Virap, that offers the best views of Mount Ararat across the Turkish border, before admiring the pink-hued city of Yerevan.
At OROKO, we pride ourselves on having an unparalleled understanding of some of the world’s least discovered and isolated destinations. We use our wealth of knowledge and expertise to create tailor-made trips which go above and beyond the ordinary. It is a place that is extremely rewarding, but also a destination where specialist knowledge is vital. That is why all of our luxury Armenia holidays include partner accommodation, expert English-speaking private guides, and private transfers.
POCKET GUIDE TO ARMENIA
Overlooked by the majestic, snow-capped Mount Ararat, Yerevan is the capital of Armenia. For stunning views of the city and mountain beyond, head to the top of the Grand Cascade (a multi-tiered system of stairs dotted with fountains and sculptures). Then head to the Armenian Genocide Memorial, History Museum of Armenia, and Cafesjian Centre for the Arts (housed in the Grand Cascade). Finish the day with khoravats (barbequed meats) and oghee (fruit vodka) at one of the traditional pandoks (taverns).
Combine with Azerbaijan & Georgia
Multi-destination holidays are very popular at OROKO and one of our favourite ways to experience Armenia is to combine it with Azerbaijan & Georgia. Starting in Azerbaijan, you will explore Baku, Sheki, Gobustan and Shemakha. In Georgia, visit Tbilisi, the Tibaani Vineyards, and the sites along the Georgian Military Highway. The trip finishes in Armenia where you will spend four days discovering the iconic wonders of Yerevan as well as visiting Lake Sevan, one of the world’s largest alpine lakes.
Best Time to Travel
The best time to embark on luxury holidays in Armenia is between May and October, when temperatures range between 21˚C to 30˚C. In terms of climate and scenery, autumn is particularly ideal, as the weather is still quite warm (daily average of 26˚C). Summer is equally delightful with an excellent selection of outdoor activities on offer to complement the wine tastings and monastery tours.
OROKO Top Tip
A luxury holiday to Armenia would be incomplete without embarking on a privately guided tour of some of the country’s most iconic sites. Start in Yerevan, where you will visit the Armenian Genocide Memorial and marvel at Republic Square’s impressive fountains. Then continue to the small monastery of Khor Virap before heading to Geghard Monastery, which has been carved into the mountainside. Finish the tour with a visit to the Garni Temple where you can enjoy an a cappella concert.
