Introduction

Home to dramatic wilderness, marvellous coastline and iconic wildlife, Tasmania encompasses everything we love about Australia. Start your road trip in one of Australia’s oldest cities, Launceston, a vibrant city packed with excellent food and world-renowned wine. Continue your discovery in the seaside town of Strahan, distinct Hobart and the spectacular woodlands of St Clair National Park, before finishing your journey in breathtaking Coles Bay. A road trip is undoubtedly the best way to experience the island, taking you through fabulously diverse nature, from rolling vineyards and alpine forests to unlimited coastal beauty.

Trip Overview

Depart from Dublin to Launceston.

Pick up your rental car and drive to your luxury waterfront hotel, conveniently located in the heart of Launceston. Spend two nights exploring the locality, known for world-class food and wine, charming countryside, beautiful architecture and remarkable history.

Your next stop is Cradle Mountain Lake, St Clair National Park.

Head west to your log cabin in the UNESCO-listed National Park, where you’ll spend three nights. Explore a selection of nature trails or why not go fly fishing, take to the lake for some canoeing or simply unwind with a glass of wine, cheese board and spectacular views.

Cradle Mountain
Next, drive to the seaside village of Strahan for two nights.

Get acquainted with the charming surroundings in this historic fishing village before embarking on an award-winning cruise of the Gordon River. Take in the history and the tranquil surrounds of the spectacular area.

Gordon River
Depart for three nights in Hobart.

Positioned in the foothills of Mount Wellington, Hobart is arguably Tasmania’s most distinctive city, offering a blend of outstanding restaurants, elegant heritage, beautiful scenery and Tasmanian culture. Settle into your luxuriously modern hotel before taking a privately guided tour of the city.

Hobart
Set off on an adventure to Maria Island.

Cross the Mercury Passage to Maria Island National Park on a short ferry ride. Enjoy a day of peaceful walking amongst historic ruins, rugged fossil cliffs and imposing mountains, keeping a look out for the islands resident wombats and kangaroos.

Maria Island
Your last stop is the breath-taking coastline of Coles Bay.

We’ve arranged a three night stay in a luxury retreat surrounded by native coastal bushland. Start enjoying your stay by taking to the sea for an afternoon spent kayaking, paddle boarding or fishing.

Saffire Freycinet
Drive to the airport for your flight home.

Drop off your rental car and board your flight. Arrive in Dublin.
