Introduction

Largely untouched by Soviet industrialisation, The Golden Ring of Russia is a pastoral realm of historic architecture, religious art and traditional Russian cooking. On this suggested itinerary, delve into Russia’s rich history and cultural heritage as we take you on a memorable journey through the five ancient towns northeast of Moscow. In contrast to capital’s cosmopolitan chaos, The Golden Ring offers a slower pace of life, with the opportunity to uncover a more authentic side of this vast nation. Leave the urban marvels of the cultural capitals behind as you venture into rural settings straight from Russian fairytales.

Trip Overview

Depart from Dublin to Moscow.

Your private driver will be waiting to transfer you to your luxury hotel in the heart of Russia’s capital. Your home for the next two nights, settle in, relax and enjoy a refreshing cocktail in one of the city’s rooftop bars.

Soak up the sights and sounds of the nation’s vibrant capital.

With your guide, marvel at the city’s most important landmarks. Wander the Red Square before strolling through a labyrinth of vaulted chapels and frescoed arcades of St Basil’s Cathedral. Continue to explore Moscow’s Arabat Street and the Kremlin.

Moscow
Continue to Russia’s Golden Ring.

Head north by private transfer, making stops along the way visit the UNESCO-listed city of Vladimir. See the local monuments and old churches on a guided tour, then travel a short distance to the nearby town of Suzdal for an overnight stay.

Vladimir
Rise early and spend the morning getting to know Suzdal.

We’ve arranged a guided tour of Suzdal’s kremlin followed by a mead tasting session. In the afternoon continue along the Golden Ring to Kostroma with a stop at Plyos, a lovely town in the upper reaches of the Volga River.

Suzdal Kremlin
Explore Kostroma and Yaroslavl, two great historical Golden Ring cities.

Admire the neo-classical streets of Kostroma and discover Ipatiev Monastery, one of the city’s most popular sites with close ties to the Romanov dynasty. Enjoy an afternoon boat ride along the Volga River before spending the night in Kostroma.

Yaroslavl
Continue to Sergiev Posad with a stop in Rostov Veliky.

Spend the night in one of Russia’s oldest towns, and one of the most beautiful in northwestern Russia. With your guide, pay a visit to the city’s Kremlin and learn about all about the art of finifit at the Enamel Museum. Afterwards, explore the historic city of Sergeiev Posad.

Sergiev Posad
Return to Moscow and board the express train to St Petersburg.

Upon arrival, privately transfer to your luxury hotel on the banks of the River Moyka. Why not begin your four night stay with a decadent Russian afternoon tea, enjoying lashings of cake and champagne.

St Petersburg
Wander the grand boulevards of St Petersburg.

Over the next few days, we’ve arranged guided tours of the lavish Hermitage Museum, Catherine’s Palace and Pavlovsk Park & Palace. We’ve also arranged a full day exploration of Peterhof’s series of palaces and gardens.

Transfer to the international airport for your flight home.
