On this suggested itinerary, discover the history and culture of Georgian villages and towns that dot the Caucasus Mountains, beginning your journey in the capital city of Tbilisi.

Trip Overview

Depart from Dublin to Tbilisi.

Upon arrival, your private driver will transfer you to your luxury accommodation where you’ll spend three nights. The bohemian city is a sight to behold at night, with its dramatic valley lit up by the sparkling city lights.

Explore the red-roofed Old Town, with visits to Rezo Gabriadze Theatre, Anchiskhati Basilica, Sioni Cathedral, the Sulfur Baths and Narikala Fortress. Head to the art nouveau Sololaki District before enjoying dinner at one of the city’s most creative kitchens.

Discover Georgian wonders as you transfer to Kutaisi.

Stop en route at the village of Koreti, in a region of small farms, vineyards and orchards. Survey the crumbling factories of the haunting town of Chiatura before visiting Katskhis Column, a natural limestone pillar 140 feet high supporting medieval church ruins. Arrive in Kutaisi for an overnight stay.

Travel to Mestia for a two night stay.

Visit Gelati Monastery which was founded by Georgia’s David IV, also known as David the Builder. Marvel at the ornate frescoes, mosaics and enamel craftsmanship of the Monastery. Travel along the Inguri River, admiring its winding and precipitous gorge.

Get to know the traditions of Mestia.

Enjoy a privately guided tour of this highland townlet, paying visits to the Ethnographic Museum, Margiani House Museum and Laghami Church. Attend a Svan singing performance, a polyphonic style unique to the region.

Set out for resort town of Borjomi.

Stop to visit a kvevri maker in the village of Makatubani. Kvevri are large earthenware vessels used for fermentation, storage and ageing of traditional Georgian wine. Arrive in Borjomi for an overnight stay. This town is celebrated for its mineral water, believed to have enormous health benefits.

Head to the cave town of Vardzia.

Journey through the Meskhetian region, stopping at the Old Town of Akhaltsikhe and the Samtskhe-Javakheti Museum before arriving in Vardzia for an overnight stay. Pay a visit to a local farmhouse to sample Meskhetian cuisine and explore the Vardzia Cave Monastery. Return to Tbilisi for an overnight stay.

Depart for Signagi’s Qedeli Village.

On your journey visit Telavi, the cultural centre of Georgia’s wine-growing region. Stop for a wine tasting at Tsinandali Village, the former estate of Alexander Chavchavadze. Arrive in Qedeli for a two night stay. While here, explore the market at Tsnori Village and enjoy a private tour of Signagi town.

Start your journey back to Tbilisi.

Stop at Sagarejo village for lunch and visit the cellar of a French vigneron for an introduction to sparkling wine made from Georgian endemic grapes. Next, stop at Dry Bridge Market and browse the range of traditional crafts and products. Arrive in Tbilisi for an overnight stay.
