Lhasa City at night
It’s time to see the sights.
On your first day in the city, visit two ancient and culturally significant monastiers; Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery. Making up two of the three great university monasteries of Tibet, these landmarks are not to be missed.
Drepung Monastery
Allow us to arrange an exciting tour of the city.
Visit Potala Palace, the highest palace in the world and the centre point of Tibetan Buddhism. Then in the afternoon, visit Jokhang Temple, a world-famous pilgrimage site. Of course no tour would be complete without a visit to Norbulingka, a collection of beautiful landscaped gardens and Barkhor Street, the central hub of arts and culture in Tibet.
Potala Palace
The next day, transfer to Shigatse which is the second largest city in Tibet.
You will spend just one night here, before moving to your next destination.
Shigatse, Tibet
Spend the day exploring the sights with a private guide.
Begin with a visit to Yamdrok Lake, a large and sacred body of water that is surrounded by scenic snowcapped mountains. Then, head to Palkhor Monastery, known as Lord of the Tibetan Stupas. Finish off the day with a visit to Kumbum, a spectacular Bodhi Stupa which was built in 1412.
Yamdrok Lake
Spend the night in a hand selected OROKO property and finish off your stay with one last tour.
Visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, an important structure which symbolises fortune and happiness. Founded by the first Dalai Lama in 1447, the building is a very important landmark and a highlight for many tourists.
Monks at Tashilhunpo Monastery
After the tour of Tashilhunpo, depart for Shegar stopping off at Shakya Monastery along the way.
Built in 1073, these ancient ruins still house paraphernalia from the Yuan Dynasty, ancient books on astrology and medicine as well as many other fascinating artefacts.
Tibetan Monastery
Arrive in Shegar and check into a charming and cosy guesthouse. You’ll spend two nights here.
Wake up in the morning and begin the drive to Rongbuk. Continue on to reach the famous Everest Base Camp. Visit the camp and meet some of the climbers who are currently staying there.
Everest Base Camp
Take in the spectacular views, that very few are lucky enough to see.
From herds of deer and yak grazing on the hillsides below to the sun shining over snowy peaks, the natural beauty is almost too much to take in.
Yak grazing on hillside
From Everest Base Camp, return to the hotel and relax for the evening.
In the morning, depart for Gyirong. Here you can take a 30 minute hike to Milarepa cave, where Tibetan Buddhist and philosopher Vajrayana Mahasiddha spent many years of his life praying and meditating.
Tibetan Prayer Flags
After spending the night in Gyirong, transfer to Dhulikhel.
Here you will leave your Tibetan guide and meet a Nepalese expert who will take you through the rest of your trip.
Buddha statue Dhulikhel
Stay in Dhulikhel for two final nights.
Dhulikhel, which has always been an important trade centre, is a place of exhilarating beauty and unparalleled serenity. Also popular for the remarkable view of the sunrise and sunset, Dhulikhel is famous for its vantage location in viewing the Himalayas.
Himalayas, Nepal
In the morning, hike to Namobuddha, a famous pilgrimage location.
This ancient stupa is said to be the location of the ‘Great Beings’ original sacrifice. It is though that his remains are buried here and so people from all over the world come to make offerings of butter lamps and pay homage to the history and reverence of the location.
Namobuddha lamps
The following day, drive to Kathmandu and explore some of the most famous landmarks.
En route to the city, stop at Bhaktapur, a famous UNESCO World Heritage Site. Bhaktapur is a beautiful city with brick roads, traditional cottages and an old-fashioned way of life. The religious landmark is one of the most imposing in Kathmandu and is a centre of Tibetan Buddhism. With the help of your guide, you will light butter lamps which are one of the most powerful offerings you can give to a deity.
