Beneath the unmistakable silhouette of the Matterhorn, the extensive Matterhorn Ski Paradise stretches across the Swiss–Italian border, allowing skiers to descend into Cervinia for lunch before returning to the car-free streets and traditional timber buildings of one of the Alps' most celebrated villages. Stay at the family-run Hotel Alpenhof, ideally placed for easy access to the mountain railways, or upgrade to The Omnia, reached through a tunnel carved into the mountainside before ascending by private lift.
Life in Zermatt extends well beyond the slopes. Ride the Gornergrat Railway for sweeping Matterhorn views or follow the winter trail from Sunnegga to the hamlet of Findeln, where lunch at Chez Vrony has become one of the resort's defining experiences.
