From wildlife-rich savannahs and ancient rainforest to the volcanic slopes of the Virunga Mountains, this journey showcases Rwanda at its most extraordinary. Stay in some of Africa’s finest lodges as you explore Akagera National Park, track chimpanzees through Nyungwe Forest and come face-to-face with mountain gorillas in one of the world’s most remarkable wildlife encounters.
10 nights through Rwanda’s savannah, rainforest and volcanic highlands. Includes luxury lodge accommodation, private transfers, helicopter travel, safari activities, gorilla and chimpanzee tracking, pre-arranged gorilla permits and expert guiding throughout.
Rwanda is one of the few places in Africa where the most anticipated moment of the journey happens on foot. There are no vehicles, no hides and no certainty. Instead, the final approach is through bamboo forest and tangled vegetation, following trackers deeper into the Virungas until a gorilla family emerges from the trees. For many travellers, it becomes one of the most memorable wildlife encounters they will ever experience.
Over the course of this journey, savannah gives way to rainforest, helicopter flights connect remote wilderness areas and three of Africa’s most celebrated lodges provide access to landscapes that feel increasingly wild and remote. From the wildlife-rich plains of Akagera and the ancient forests of Nyungwe to the volcanic peaks surrounding Bisate, each stage builds naturally towards the next, creating a journey that feels both exclusive and deeply rewarding.

Arrive into Kigali and transfer privately to The Retreat. Clean, green and remarkably calm, Rwanda’s capital offers a gentle introduction to the country before the wilderness that follows.
Spend the afternoon exploring Kigali’s creative and culinary scene or simply relaxing at the hotel. The following morning begins with a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, providing important context for understanding modern Rwanda and the extraordinary transformation that has followed.
Many travellers arrive in Rwanda for the gorillas, but leave talking just as much about the journey itself. The progression from Akagera to Nyungwe and finally the Virungas creates a natural sense of anticipation, with each landscape feeling entirely different from the last.
The lodges are equally important. Magashi Peninsula, One&Only Nyungwe House and Wilderness Bisate are among the finest properties in Africa, transforming what could be a wildlife itinerary into something far more exclusive. Gorilla trekking may be the defining experience, but it is the combination of extraordinary wildlife, exceptional guiding and remarkable places to stay that makes Rwanda so special.
