Ancient Egypt is overwhelming in scale. Pyramids that have stood for more than four millennia. Temples whose columns dwarf the people beneath them. Hieroglyphs that reveal a civilisation so sophisticated that the more you understand, the more extraordinary it becomes.
Then the Nile draws the eye elsewhere. A fisherman casting his net in the early morning. Children swimming out from the riverbank. Green fields giving way abruptly to desert. Five nights aboard a dahabiya leave time for these scenes to register, rather than simply carrying you from one ancient site to the next. By Aswan, Egypt feels much bigger than the history that first brought you there.
10 nights in Egypt. Includes international return and internal flights, private transfers, luxury hotel accommodation in Cairo and Aswan, full-board dahabiya Nile accommodation, meet-and-greet services, and private Egyptologist guiding throughout including a private felucca sailing experience. From €8,539 per person.
The more you learn about ancient Egypt, the more astonishing it becomes. The sheer scale is obvious, but look closer and the details are even more compelling: the engineering behind Karnak, Tutankhamun’s personal possessions, a calendar calculated around the Nile, a civilisation reading nature thousands of years ago.
Travelling with a private Egyptologist allows those details to build rather than disappear at the end of each excursion. Something introduced in Cairo returns days later in Luxor. Hieroglyphs become stories rather than decoration, and temples begin to reveal how people understood everything from medicine and mathematics to gods, death and the changing river.
Then the dahabiya slows everything down. Between the ancient sites are long stretches of Nile life, close enough to see from the deck and slow enough to notice. It is this combination that makes Egypt so affecting: the enormity of what was built here, the ingenuity behind it and the river still flowing through the middle of it all.

Arrive in Cairo, where you will be met before immigration and assisted through arrival formalities before transferring privately to The St. Regis Cairo.
The remainder of the day is left free. Cairo can be wonderfully overwhelming on first arrival; there is no need to add sightseeing before tomorrow.
A dahabiya changes both the Nile and the sightseeing. With only a handful of cabins, service is personal and the boat sails close to the riverbanks, bringing everyday life into view. Paired with our own private Egyptologist, it also gives us greater control over the journey: Luxor Temple at sunset, Edfu without the main cruise crowds where possible, and Philae saved until last.
Just as importantly, we leave space between them. Some of the best moments in Egypt happen when there is no temple in sight.
