OROKO Travel Guide | Where to travel by month

With such a variety of places to visit in the world, it’s hard to know where to go and when! Brought to you by our Travel Specialists who spend weeks every year travelling the globe, we are sharing some of our favourite places to visit each month. Of course, there are lots of different destinations that you can visit, but we think this will provide a little inspiration to kick-start your year.

January | South Africa

January is the ideal month for ski enthusiasts to hit the slopes of Europe. However, there are many other destinations that thrive at this time of the year. South Africa is a year-round destination due to its varying regional climates and wildlife opportunities. The Cape has beautiful hot, dry weather in its summer months between November and February. Other excellent destinations include Seychelles, St Lucia and Thailand.

February | Vietnam

February is a perfect month for exploring long-haul destinations, especially in Asia and South America. Ideal for families and couples alike, why not consider Vietnam? It is hot from May to October, but the high humidity leads to significant rainfall. The weather cools down from November to April and its much drier. Other inspiring destinations to visit in February include Argentina and Patagonia.

March | India

As Spring approaches, the weather in Europe still remains unpredictable, so it is best to explore destinations further afield. It is one of the best months to visit India, as the weather is more likely to be warm, sunny and dry. During this time, the north offers clear blue skies. The best time to visit India’s southern states is from November onwards, once the monsoon has ended.

April | Japan

A wonderful time of the year, flowers begin to bloom across the landscape. Japan’s famed cherry blossom season, known as Sakura, makes it a beautiful destination for this time of year. A celebration month, the country comes alive as people gather in colourful parks and gardens, picnicking under the colourful trees. April is also the perfect time to tick the Pacific Coast Highway off your bucket list.

May | Indonesia

As May begins, a wealth of destinations are at their prime. From safaris in Zimbabwe to luxury cruises across Alaska, there are great options to choose from. Indonesia, best visited between April and October, is an ideal honeymoon destination as the weather is perfect for island hopping, snorkelling, and beach relaxation.

June | Namibia

June is an excellent time of the year to explore the coastlines of Europe. From the glamorous Côte d’Azur to the Mediterranean island of Corsica, sunshine is easily found close to home. For a destination further afield, why not consider Namibia? It is completely different from any other African safari destination. The best time to visit Namibia is from June to October, when the temperatures are just above 20°C and the chance of rain is low. This is also the best time for wildlife viewing, making it peak travel season — you will need to plan well in advance.

July | Greece

July is peak travel season as children are off school and people are in search of the sun. Whether you want to go island-hopping across azure waters, explore ancient archaeological sites and monuments, or visit the ancient capital of Athens, Greece has a lot to offer. A great destination for families, planning in advance is key when travelling over the summer. Long haul destinations that blossom in July include Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands.

August | Peru

With a wealth of destinations perfect in August, it is hard to choose. For culture and adventure seekers, why not consider South America? Heartland of the Incas, Peru is still filled with sites that showcase this powerful empire’s prowess as master builders, most notably Machu Picchu. The best time to visit Peru is during the dry season, between May and October, which sees sunny days, bright blue skies in the Andes and chilly nights.

September | Italy

September is a perfect month to explore Europe’s beautiful cities and coastlines. Italy is renowned for its art, architecture, style and food. The best time to visit is during spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) when the temperatures are comfortable and there are fewer crowds. Other excellent destinations, including neighbouring countries like France and Croatia.

October | Spain

A country that dances to a flamenco beat, Spain retains much of its traditional charm at the same time it embraces the new. Many people opt to visit Spain in the late spring (April–May) or early autumn (September–October), as they are attracted by pleasant temperatures and lighter crowds. That said, the country’s diverse offerings mean you can find something to enjoy at any time of year. Other European destinations that are perfect include Portugal and the Netherlands.

November | Cambodia

As winter has officially arrived, it is difficult to find warmer climates close to home. Southeast Asia is an ideal destination, especially Cambodia. The intricately carved temples of Angkor are Cambodia’s main draw, but elsewhere in the country, you’ll find vibrant minority villages and great swathes of wilderness. The best time to visit Cambodia is between November and April when it sees very little rain. During this time, you’ll see clear blue skies making it a great time to enjoy a relaxing getaway.

December | Maldives

In December, the Indian Ocean is at its prime. Tropical islands with swaying palm trees, pure white beaches and brilliant turquoise lagoons, luxury Maldives will never disappoint.
