Trip Overview

Depart from Dublin to Johannesburg.

Upon arrival, your private driver will transfer you to the city of Pretoria. Spend one night in a boutique property and catch up on some relaxation by the garden pool. In the morning, you will privately transfer to Pretoria Station.

Board the luxury carriages of the Shongololo Express.

Your home for the next 12 nights, check-in to your luxury cabin and explore the various carriages of the train. Enjoy a decadent afternoon tea and relax before a formal dinner where you’ll get to mingle with fellow guests.

Travel by rail through South Africa’s historic sites.

Your first three nights will be spent journeying through South Africa. You will embark on guided tours of Kimberley’s Big Hole, Upington’s historical sites and Orange River. You’ll also enjoy a wine tasting at a local vineyard.

Cross the border into the marvellous landscapes of Namibia.

Your first encounters with Namibia will include exploring the imposing Fish River Canyon, the ghost town of Kolmanskop and Lüderitz, home to wildlife like flamingos, penguins and the legendary horses of the Namib Desert.

Continue your journey discovering unique landscapes along the way.

Embark on guided tours of Keetmanshoop and Garas Park before you leave the train for a night in Sossusvlei. Set out on scenic drives and tour Deadvlei and Sesreim Canyon. Take amazing photographs as the desert’s light changes throughout the day.

Reboard the luxury carriages and journey towards Windhoek.

Continue to enjoy life aboard the glamorous train, enjoying afternoon tea, spending evenings sampling delicious seasonal cuisine and nightcaps in the bar. We’ve also arranged a stop in Windhoek for a guided tour.

Disembark the train for a night spent in a safari lodge of Etosha. Adventure through the celebrated national park on guided game drives and witness marvellous scenes of wildlife like leopard, lion and elephant.

Disembark in Walvis Bay.

Your train journey comes to an end in Walvis Bay. We will privately transfer you to the coastal town of Swakopmund, where you’ll spend three nights. For your final adventure, we’ve arranged a privately guided living desert experience.
